About the Leader gate valves range

Every Leader gate valve we supply is listed on this page: 49 families spanning 8 mm to 1050 mm, in 10 body materials.

On a gate range the size break matters more than anything else. Small bores are screwed and made in gunmetal or bronze; from around 50 mm the range moves to flanged cast or ductile iron, and the weight, the flange standard and the mating pipework start to decide the order.

The Leader range here is supplied in gunmetal to IS 318 LTB-2 for potable and general water service, carbon steel WCB for steam and higher pressures, cast iron to IS 210 for larger bores on water duty and forged carbon steel A105 on small-bore high-pressure lines, and 2 more. Getting the material right is the part of the specification that cannot be corrected on site. The medium and the working temperature settle it; the size does not enter into it.

Sizes run across 8–25 mm, 32–50 mm, 65–100 mm, 125–200 mm and 250–1050 mm. Construction usually changes with the size rather than continuing unbroken: small bores are screwed and made in a copper alloy, while the larger end of the range is flanged and cast.

Ends available are Flanged, Screwed BSP (parallel) and Butt weld. This is worth confirming against the pipework drawing rather than assumed: changing a valve's end connection after delivery means changing the pipework.

The range is rated PN 10, PN 16, Class 300 and Class 1500. Class is chosen against the duty, including any surge the line sees, rather than against the nominal system pressure alone.

The applicable standards here are IS 778, BS 1414 / API 600 and IS 14846. A specification that names one is asking for a specific construction, not a general quality level.

Test certificates are available against the order where the product carries them. It is worth confirming the requirement before the order is placed rather than at delivery.

To quote gate valves properly we need the flange standard the mating pipework is drilled to in addition to sizes and quantities. Everything else on the enquiry can be inferred; that cannot.
