Trap failure is quiet. A trap that has failed open passes live steam and costs money without announcing itself; one that has failed shut waterlogs the equipment. Selecting on the actual condensate load rather than the line size is what avoids both.

The Leader range here is supplied in cast iron to IS 210 for larger bores on water duty. Getting the material right is the part of the specification that cannot be corrected on site. The medium and the working temperature settle it; the size does not enter into it.

Sizes run across 15–25 mm and 32–50 mm. Construction usually changes with the size rather than continuing unbroken: small bores are screwed and made in a copper alloy, while the larger end of the range is flanged and cast.

The range is supplied with Screwed BSP (parallel), Screwed BSPT (taper) and Socket weld ends. Which one is right is a question about the line, not about the valve, and it is the detail most often left off an enquiry.

Construction is to ASME B16.11. That is the reference to quote if the valve has to be approved by a consultant before the order is released.

Where an inspection certificate or an IBR form is required, say so with the enquiry — it is arranged with the manufacturer at order stage and cannot be added to a valve already despatched.

Send the condensate load and the back pressure discharged against with the schedule when you enquire about steam traps. Sizes and quantities alone leave the one question open that decides which valve is actually correct.
