A screwed ball valve and a flanged one at the same bore are answering different questions, not competing on price — screwed suits a line small enough to make up by hand, while flanged is what a specification is asking for once the bore, the pressure class or simply the maintenance history of the line calls for a joint that can be broken and remade without cutting pipe.

The Leader range here is supplied in carbon steel WCB for steam and higher pressures, CF8 stainless where the medium attacks a copper alloy, CF8M stainless for chlorides and process chemicals and forged brass on small-bore service lines, and 1 more. The medium chooses the material. Cost only breaks a tie between two bodies that both suit the duty, and a body that fails on temperature is not cheaper for having cost less.

The range covers 8–25 mm, 32–50 mm, 65–100 mm and 125–200 mm. That span is not one design scaled up — the small end is screwed copper alloy, the large end is flanged and cast, and the break between them is where weight and handling start to matter.

You can have Flanged, Screwed NPT and Screwed BSP (parallel) ends on this range. Matching the connection to what is already installed is the difference between a valve that is fitted in an afternoon and one that waits for a fabricator.

Available classes are Class 150, Class 300, Class 800 and Class 600. A class is what the body is tested to; the working pressure it may be held at falls as the temperature rises, which is what the manufacturer's chart is for.

This range is manufactured to BS EN ISO 17292 and BS EN ISO 17292 / API 6D. Where a tender names a standard, quoting it back on the enquiry is what stops an approved substitution being queried later.

Test certificates are available against the order where the product carries them. It is worth confirming the requirement before the order is placed rather than at delivery.

To quote ball valves properly we need whether the duty needs a full bore or tolerates a reduced one in addition to sizes and quantities. Everything else on the enquiry can be inferred; that cannot.
