Face-to-face length is where a butterfly valve earns its place over a gate or globe of the same bore — a wafer or lugged body fits in roughly a third the length, which matters more on a retrofit into an existing pipe run than on a new design where the space was planned in from the start.

The Honeywell range here is supplied in cast iron to IS 210 for larger bores on water duty and ductile iron to IS 1865 where the line sees shock, vibration or a buried, long-service duty. Getting the material right is the part of the specification that cannot be corrected on site. The medium and the working temperature settle it; the size does not enter into it.

Sizes span 40–50 mm, 65–100 mm, 125–200 mm and 250–700 mm. Across that range the construction changes more than once, so a size at the top of the range and one at the bottom are related products rather than the same product in two sizes.

Ends available are Wafer and Lugged. This is worth confirming against the pipework drawing rather than assumed: changing a valve's end connection after delivery means changing the pipework.

Ratings in this range are PN 16 and PN 25. Specifying a class above the duty costs money and weight for nothing; specifying below it is the failure that is found the hard way.

This range is manufactured to IS 13095. Where a tender names a standard, quoting it back on the enquiry is what stops an approved substitution being queried later.

Where an inspection certificate or an IBR form is required, say so with the enquiry — it is arranged with the manufacturer at order stage and cannot be added to a valve already despatched.

To quote butterfly valves properly we need the medium and temperature, which decide the seat liner, and the size at which you want a gear operator rather than a lever in addition to sizes and quantities. Everything else on the enquiry can be inferred; that cannot.
