Spindle material on a sluice valve is a corrosion decision as much as a cost one — forged brass resists a wider range of water chemistries than plain steel, but stainless is what a buried, decades-long installation is actually judged on.

The Kartar range here is supplied in cast iron to IS 210 for larger bores on water duty and ductile iron to IS 1865 where the line sees shock, vibration or a buried, long-service duty. Getting the material right is the part of the specification that cannot be corrected on site. The medium and the working temperature settle it; the size does not enter into it.

Sizes span 50 mm, 65–100 mm, 125–200 mm and 250–1000 mm. Across that range the construction changes more than once, so a size at the top of the range and one at the bottom are related products rather than the same product in two sizes.

Pressure classes cover PN 16 and PN 10. The class is a rating on the body, not a statement about the line: a valve is selected on the pressure and temperature it will actually see in service.

Products in this range are built to IS 14846. The standard is what a consultant writes into a specification, so it is worth quoting it on the enquiry.

Test certificates are available against the order where the product carries them. It is worth confirming the requirement before the order is placed rather than at delivery.

Send whether the valve is buried or in a chamber, and the stem arrangement wanted with the schedule when you enquire about sluice valves. Sizes and quantities alone leave the one question open that decides which valve is actually correct.
