About the Kartar Y-strainers range

This is the full Kartar Y-strainer range we are authorised to supply — 3 families, 50 mm to 500 mm, across 2 body materials.

A Y-strainer range usually crosses from screwed to flanged ends partway through its size run, and that crossover is worth checking against the pipework rather than assumed — a screwed strainer saves a pair of flanges on a small branch line, but nobody specifies a 300 mm line in anything but flanged.

The Kartar range here is supplied in cast iron to IS 210 for larger bores on water duty and ductile iron to IS 1865 where the line sees shock, vibration or a buried, long-service duty. Getting the material right is the part of the specification that cannot be corrected on site. The medium and the working temperature settle it; the size does not enter into it.

Sizes run across 50 mm, 65–100 mm, 125–200 mm and 250–500 mm. Construction usually changes with the size rather than continuing unbroken: small bores are screwed and made in a copper alloy, while the larger end of the range is flanged and cast.

The range is rated PN 10 and PN 16. Class is chosen against the duty, including any surge the line sees, rather than against the nominal system pressure alone.

Works test certificates and material certificates can be supplied with the consignment where the standard calls for them, but they have to be asked for at the time of order rather than afterwards.

When you send an enquiry for Y-strainers, include the perforation or mesh required, and what the screen is protecting alongside the sizes and quantities. It is the detail that most often has to be chased before a quotation can be priced, and supplying it up front saves a round trip.

Prices are ex-GST list. Where a size is not shown, ask — the range extends beyond what is held as standard.
