A fire-safe certified butterfly valve on a range costs more than its plain equivalent at the same bore for a real reason, not a brand premium — it's tested to keep sealing for a stated period after its elastomer liner burns away, which the uncertified version was never asked to do.

The Audco range here is supplied in cast iron to IS 210 for larger bores on water duty and ductile iron to IS 1865 where the line sees shock, vibration or a buried, long-service duty. Material is decided by the medium and the temperature before it is decided by price: a body that suits cold water will not necessarily suit the same line carrying steam.

Bores available are 50 mm, 65–100 mm, 125–200 mm and 250–600 mm. Above roughly 50 mm the pattern shifts to flanged cast bodies, and flange drilling, weight and lifting become part of the order rather than an afterthought.

The range is rated PN 16, PN 10 and PN 20. Class is chosen against the duty, including any surge the line sees, rather than against the nominal system pressure alone.

Works test certificates and material certificates can be supplied with the consignment where the standard calls for them, but they have to be asked for at the time of order rather than afterwards.

An enquiry for butterfly valves is quickest to price when it states the medium and temperature, which decide the seat liner, and the size at which you want a gear operator rather than a lever as well as the sizes and quantities. Without it we have to come back and ask, which adds a day to the quotation for no reason.
