Sant’s ductile lron Butterfly Valve is supplied in 50 mm to 300 mm at PN 25. Butterfly valves become the economical choice as bore increases: the disc rotates within the body rather than lifting clear of it, so the valve stays short and light where a gate valve would be neither. Ductile iron carries considerably more strength and impact resistance than grey cast iron for the same section — the reason it is specified for buried and higher-pressure mains. Flanged ends make the valve straightforward to remove for servicing without cutting pipe, and are the norm once bore and weight rule out threaded joints.
