The trade-off for that control is a permanent pressure drop even when fully open. The rising stem shows the valve’s position at a glance, which is worth having on a valve that is operated rarely and needs to be verified shut — allow headroom above it. WCB carbon steel construction, rated for the steam and thermal-oil duties that rule out lighter body materials.
