The gauge glass is isolated by cocks so it can be blown down and cleaned while the boiler remains in service. Bronze construction suits continuous water duty and takes repeated cycling without the seats degrading quickly. Screwed BSP ends keep installation simple at small bores and allow a valve to be changed with two wrenches. Mounted on the boiler drum and read as part of every shift check.
